We Would Not Hesitate to Work Again
This 27 Jan 2026 review is very long overdue but appropriately timely – reminiscent of exactly one year ago when my husband and I began a journey with whom we have since determined to be a choir of angels!!
We live in Mt. Pleasant, MI, but were out of country when we were notified by caring neighbors that one of our pipes (on-demand hot water to dishwasher) had frozen, eventually breaking and causing a flurry of events – the most significant of which was flooding!!
Our home insurance and adjuster responded immediately. ServiceMaster took the reins in effectively and timely conducting the following:
1. WATER MITIGATION – The home was first dried with no trace of mold or mildew, considering the extent of water reach (2-3" of flooded floors, heavy condensed steam on walls and ceilings, 2 floors involved). Kenny’s reaching out to us to consult on the demo and reconstruction stages was quite heart-warming, as our not being on site made it difficult to fully assess next steps.
2. STORAGE AND PROTECTION OF HOME CONTENTS –
a. EVERYTHING in affected areas of both floors was removed from the home and safely stored. Items were returned noticeably wrapped and packed with dignity. There was nothing missing except for “damaged-out” materials, which, at our request, were left on site. Brianna took the time to communicate and share pictures daily, reassuring us from afar that all items were being cared for. Only during the return of boxed and large items 8 months later did we meet some of the crew. Huge shout-out to Logan and the rest of Brianna’s excellently skilled and organized team.
b. The storage team also remarkably labeled items as documented in an electronic spreadsheet to which we had access, making requests convenient in attaining certain necessary items such as clothing, and also minimizing the expense of time and money purchasing goods we already had.
3. DEMO – As continuation of Water Mitigation, Kenny and team worked slightly rough, but effectively removed all countertops, kitchen cabinets, floors, baseboards, large cutouts in ceilings, so as to quickly dry affected areas of our home – in the middle of winter! As we have an older home, we earnestly wanted the character preserved. Kenny’s team commendably labeled each baseboard removed to facilitate reinstallation.
4. RECONSTRUCTION – This was the largest phase which went by relatively quickly – less than 4 months! Repair was subcontracted to Brook Construction and supervised primarily by project manager Troy. Brook workers (JD, Ben, and others) were respectful to each other and towards us as homeowners. We sensed they listened and consulted in several instances. Troy took both a professional and personal interest in getting things right, occasionally doing some difficult or experimental work himself, and wasn’t satisfied until things were as good as he and we intended. The team was reliable, honest, communicated quite well, and worked exceptionally well interfacing with insurance.
Overall, communication was outstanding with all teams. My husband and I increasingly were more confident that teams were well trained, demonstrating kindness, integrity, honesty, and empathy as everyone was his/her own best angel helping in this huge adjustment period, with us ultimately regaining our functional home.
We do not entertain the thought of having another flood or other extensive damage to our home, yet if this was to happen, we would not hesitate to work again with the ServiceMaster teams.

They got everything packed up and started work on the repairs with Skye of Skyes Custom Builders. So this past October I got a call you never want to get when you are out of town: there is water in the basement—inches of sewer water. Ugh.
One of my first calls to manage the situation was to ServiceMaster. Kenny and his crew (Stephen and Blake) did an excellent job on the first phase of the project (Clearout & Cleanup). In addition to the physical work, they did an excellent job communicating with me about the steps and timeline and with my insurance company about what they were doing to mitigate the situation. Their team has sorted, cleaned, and stored all the contents that didn’t get damaged and provided a list of the things that need replacement. That happened seamlessly. The next step was restoring the basement back to its original condition.
ServiceMaster also has a separate team responsible for doing restoration work. The project leaders, first Troy and then Joshua, were excellent to work with, not flinching when I asked to expand the project scope from basement restoration to include some additional work (a roofing and interior project). The quotes and communication were timely, the pricing reasonable, and especially important to me was how they were able to fit this work in around other existing projects and complete it by the end of the year. Joshua managed this part while clearly separating out the insurance work from the self-pay work on paper but keeping a seamless work schedule with the contractor. The communication has been exceptional. Thanks so much!

After having a dishwasher hose break in our kitchen, we called ServiceMaster. Matt Skrocki was the remediation project manager and helped get us started while working with our insurance company. Johnny and Thomas did a great job taking out the old kitchen floor and leaving it as clean and usable as possible until we could get the reconstruction done. For reconstruction, we stayed with ServiceMaster, and Troy Schmidt (Project Coordinator) and Josh Hart (Construction Project Manager) came to our house and walked us through the reconstruction process. Josh took care of our questions and provided an excellent contractor, Brian Slubowski of Rodzina Renovations, to do the installation of our new kitchen floor. And they did it rather quickly, too. We were estimated possibly a year and got back in within 7 months. Our daughter lost her backpack right in the midst of school during all this; Shelby went out and got her a new backpack she loved. I have an axolotl. They live in water. From the smoke, I for sure thought she was a goner. But they came by with a generator to keep her filter going while they ran out to get a new tank for me to gather her in! I called ServiceMaster after my fire in October after a neighbor reached out and gave me her husband's number. They had a team for each loss: one for contents, one for textiles, and one for restore. Josh was the lead on our restore team. He listened and took our concerns seriously. He was easy to work with. If he couldn’t accommodate a request due to insurance payments, he worked with us to find an alternative. Our house, that was very rustic and dated at the time of the fire, is now absolutely beautiful. I am grateful to everyone involved with this company.
